One of my friends Chioma in Esut Anatomy 300level needs money, the money given to her as pocket money from home is mostly insufficient to cover her needs. On Tuesday, her mother sent her ₦6000 to cover all her expenses for the month. She needs to restock her foodstuff with at least ₦3000 , by the end of the week, she has to buy some textbooks and pay some lab fees worth of ₦3000 . By the time, she does all this, what will she spend during the month?
That’s one of the challenges many Esut students face everyday, but adults have things even worse because they have a lot more costs to consider with no consistent flow of money from anywhere. And this is the reason why Side hustles are essential off the Internet or on the Internet.
You know, in any student’s life, there comes a time where the pocket money from home becomes too little and just not enough to cater for your needs. Some students even experience a reduction in the flow of money from home because friends and family expect you to start catering for yourself.
That’s why students need to start a side hustle business to make some extra money and supplement any money coming from home.
Even if you’re working and earning a salary, in the bad economy of today, most times, that salary is not enough to cover some of your costs and living expenses and this is why you need a side hustle. You need something that doesn’t take too much of your time yet brings income to your pocket weekly, monthly or yearly.
Even if you don’t have any shortage of money, you can start a side hustle business just for the experience or the thrill of finally earning money yourself. If you take this mindset, then the sky is your starting point. Don’t be one of those students that finish from the University only to sit at home jobless, poaching off friends, parents, and relatives while “SEARCHING” for a white-collar job.
Instead, take the initiative and start a small side hustle business today…and who knows, it might just end up being something bigger.

  •     Events Planning and Management
  •  Graphic Designing

This involves using computer software such as Corel Draw, Photoshop, and many others to create a banner, invitation card, brochure, business card, Logo, Poster/Flyer, etc. I only started learning graphic design in September 2018 but even though I’m not an expert now, I’ve come a long way since when I was still a beginner. I can say I’m at the Amateur stage of graphic design mostly because I don’t have much time to develop myself. If you want proof, I designed the logo of this site all my lonesome.

This entails both making different hairstyles and styling people’s hair for them. This is actually a very good source of income especially if you know how to braid hair and make technical hairstyles. And the best part, it doesn’t take that much time.
Let me use this scenario to explain, a student, Folake knows how to make hair and she needs to make some money so she decides to do just above 5 people’s hair every week during the periods after lectures when she’s too tired to read. So every week, she makes up to 5000 especially if she’s making braids or fixing hair. Cashing in 5k every week is a good start on the journey to making money for an undergraduate.

There has to be some profit in it somewhere. So make inquiries if you’re really interested.

  •     Make-up

Some ladies are quite skilled in doing make up for people, why not earn money with this skill. You can teach people to make up and make money from it, sell makeup products and you can also get paid to make people up for occasions.

  •     Modeling

  •     Sell Your Blood Plasma

Okay, this might seem silly but people do sell their blood for money and, according to a health specialist I met once when we were donating blood for charity at my University, donating blood at least once a year helps with your vitality, pushing out old blood so your body can produce new blood.
Sell Your Hair
For a Nigerian, the concept of selling our hair seems silly because we usually have very short hair, except for a few people here and there, but if you’re European or American, you can always make money selling your hair and go for a new look or hairstyle.

If you’re responsible and well-known in your street or block of flats, you can get paid to babysit children. This job, however, is not for everybody but it’s a good way to earn money and who knows, you might even be able to move from just a friendly babysitter to a small daycare owner.

  •     Become A Petsitter

Now, this is one job I wouldn’t mind doing especially if it’s a dog or a cat, however, it will be pretty difficult to find a job like this in Nigeria. All you have to do is take care of someone’s pet and ensure it gets fed, allowed to take a timeout walk (some well-trained animals have time to release the waste products in their bodies) and keep it out of trouble. Finding a job like this in European countries or America should be a cakewalk, however.

  •     Work for your professor

Professors sometimes need students to help them grade papers, prepare lessons and even do research for them. Some professors usually believe that you should do those jobs free of charge (beware of this type) but most will pay you for it.

You can also compile great detailed notes, materials and college papers, type them out and sell them at a price to freshers or people just taking the course.

Peer to peer lending is simply lending out your excess money in exchange for some interest, meaning you earn extra money as long as you have money that you won’t need to use for a period of time.
